Draft words: 2,356 (total 4,427)
Hello from a classic: a mattress on the floor of an empty apartment. I’m not entirely sure it’s hit me yet, that I’m in the place I’ll call home for the next three years. Longer, quite possibly.
I have so many plans for this space. I’ll tell you all about them soon, when I’m a little less tired — I stayed up late writing last night and then had to wake up early this morning to drive down to Seattle, so I’m currently at the level of exhaustion that makes reality feel like it’s fraying a little at the edges. I caught sight of my reflection in the bathroom mirror at one point today and said out loud, “Well, darling, you look like the undead.” A little too pale. Eyes red-rimmed from lack of sleep. Revenant-chic could be a thing, no? Sure. Why not. We’ll take what we can get.
Anyways, I’ll keep this one short because I should really be in bed. I wrote 2,356 words, which I’m proud of, and I looked back over the words from yesterday and decided that most of them were salvageable, which I’m also proud of. I can definitely feel how disused these novel-writing muscles are, though, and it’s uncomfortable. Remarkably akin to returning to the gym after a long time away (which, incidentally, I also need to do here. One more thing to add to the to-do list: I need to find a gym). I need to start getting back into little habits — writing notes for the next scene I want to write, stopping in the middle of a scene to make sure momentum is easier to find the next day, that sort of thing.
I should also add that if you’re a first gen subscriber to The Owl Hours, I found out through Camille today that your old subscriptions appear to have lumped you into all three sub-sections that I’ve since set up on the site: the blog, fiction, and this logbook project. If you want to adjust anything, you can unsubscribe and then resubscribe only to the parts you’re interested in on the About page. And if you’re curious about why I decided to revive the blog after so long, I went into it in detail here.
Anywhoo. Four days down! I just need to repeat this ten times, and we’ll be at forty. I’ll check back in tomorrow, when I’ll have hopefully recovered at least part of my brain from the fugue of moving.
