Hey! First off, I’ve got a new rule, to adapt this blog to the life of a freshman (who gets far too much homework, but that’s pretty typical). I’m no longer doing this “just on Wednesdays.” I’ll have time every week to write on my blog, but there’s absolutely no guaranteeing that it’ll be on Wednesday. Actually, it’ll be on Saturday from now on. Understood? Good. Moving on.
Well, I started high school last Monday. I think it’s safe to say that I like it so far, but I don’t have any really good friends yet. But hey, stable friendships take a while. It took me two years to finally figure it out in middle school. …Let’s hope it doesn’t take that long this time. I’m in choir and orchestra (I love how they call it “orchestra” instead of “band,” it sounds so much more sophisticated) and I’m going to theater orientation after school this Monday. Giant whirling saws, here I come! The set area was redone over the summer, so now, in theory, we can build four-story-tall sets. How cool is that? I like all my teachers, though a couple of them are already giving a lot of homework. Some of my teachers I love, and some of them I like as people, but it’s very, very, very hard to remember that when slogging through assignments.
I would already be dead in math if it weren’t for my stepsister. We have a deal: I help her in English, she helps me in math. It’s worked wonderfully so far. I’m absolutely in love with the campus. Amazing views, beautiful trees, nice-smelling air, awesome facilities… and five billion steps. If I die during Freshman year, blame the steps. The rules are a lot tighter than at the high schools my friends go to, which makes me jealous. But my school is also a ton tinier, so I guess it’s a tradeoff. My favorite places at the school are the labyrinth (I love labyrinths. Love them. I’m going to have one in my back yard as an adult, just see if I don’t) and the library. The library has a nearly microscopic fiction section, but it’s also dead silent, cozy, and all-around awesome for someone who just wants to sit after school and read while waiting for their mom to come pick them up.
And I’ve got plenty more to say on the subject of high school, but I think it’ll have to be broken into segments. No rush, since I’ll be there for the next four years. I wonder if I’ll still be using this blog in four years. Who knows? But I’ve got another exciting fact – I’m learning to draw! Did I tell you this already? If so, please forget I told you and act like it’s big news. Thank you very much, I appreciate it. And because of this new endeavor I’ve gotten my hands on one of the most amazing pens known to humans: the Copic Multiliner in black with a 0.3 tip. I was trying to ink (go over in pen) drawings with the most atrocious pens, and this weekend I cracked and begged my dad to take me to an art supply store to get a decent pen. So far if you asked me to draw something freehand, it would look like a vaguely-human shaped blob with eyes and hair. I’m not kidding. But I’m copying some stuff, and by copying some and deviating some and erasing a lot, I’ve turned out two pictures already that I’m very proud of. It’d be more, but I’m adjusting to the workload. Maybe I’ll post something once I learn to color.
