World Turmoil and Snacks

·

Well, the world has officially fallen apart. There’s a protest in Wisconsin (and support for it throughout the country). Tunisia’s on the brink of civil war. New Zealand was hit by a giant earthquake. North Korea is threatening to fire on South Korea. Libya’s going through a violent and bloody revolution, and there’s a rash of other problems if you study the Middle East a tad more closely. At least no one in Libya has gotten their hands on a guillotine [yet], so it [probably] won’t become the second French Revolution. Oh, and did you know that Belgium hasn’t had a government for nearly a year? Better get your special anti-super-natural-disaster umbrellas out, because I expect that the sky will fall pretty soon too.

It’s kinda strange though… I feel like I’m looking at all these problems through a window, tucked away in my safe little corner of suburbia. I’ve heard that California is over its head in debt. And it’s something to worry about… when I’m not worrying about daily things, like getting my homework done. Okay, so my state is in debt. But I still have to go to school. I still get to see my friends. I still eat snacks and am forced into babysitting my little sister. I still sit in my room on the weekends complaining bitterly that I’m bored. And if I have a little extra time, I can contemplate the giant problems that, to be entirely honest, don’t affect my daily life whatsoever. I feel bad about them. They horrify me sometimes. And yet, it’s hard to relate to them in any tangible way. It makes me feel a little bit guilty. Like I should be doing something. But then I get sidetracked….

By things like going to Daiso… and getting three months worth of snacks. ^_^” (though I doubt they’ll last that long.) There goes my allowance…. If you’ve been following this blog for any period of time, or if you’re like the average reader of this blog who knows me in real life, then you’ve probably picked up on the fact that I love sweets to death. If it has sugar, it’s my best friend. If it’s Japanese and has sugar, I’m going to put it on a golden pedestal and worship it (and then proceed to eat it).  In middle school, T. and I got in a disagreement over whether PCs or Macs were better (Macs, of course!), so she brought me chocolate so that I would agree with her. I got chocolate, and told her that I agreed that PCs were better, under the influence of chocolate. You see, I’d told her several times when we got into arguments that if she gave me chocolate, I’d agree with anything she said. The best part? I got chocolate out of it. And all I had to do was sacrifice my point of view in a menial argument. Hey, I think that’s a pretty good deal. You give me chocolate? You’re my best friend. Example? St. gave me chocolate in sixth grade. He’s still my friend, three years later. Well, at least I think he is… I haven’t had a chance to talk to him in a while. I blame high school!

Speaking of high school… I’m supposed to pick one of three options by March 11th: current school, school with the majority of my friends, or homeschooling. But I’ve got no idea what I should do next year. And I have to choose in thirteen days! SAVE MEEEEEEE! Who cares that the rest of the world is in turmoil, Mara has to make a giant, possibly life-altering decision about where she’ll spend her sophomore year of high school! Call the presses! Write to the president! It’s a matter of international importance!

Yeah, right.

Anyways, I was thinking about making mitarashi dango tomorrow, since I’ve gotten my hands on some rice flour. I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of your weekend!

    Come to school with usssss!
And the style is okay, the fact that it’s all brown does kinda get on my nerves.

    1. Well, I’m coming on Thursday for a shadow day, does that count? And I’ll probably be trying out new themes for a while – so don’t worry, you’re not stuck with brown!
