A Little Cookie Story

·

Hello! Sorry I haven’t updated in so long… though you’re probably used to it by now. BLAME HIGH SCHOOL! I’ve been completely burned out these past few weeks, and apparently it’s not just me – after asking around, I’ve concluded that by the time the fourth quarter rolls around, every self-respecting Freshman and Sophmore is ready to hide under their desk to avoid more work. This last week hasn’t even been that hard, but I’ve just been feeling so tired and drained and blah that it’s been driving me insane. I actually fell asleep in my English classroom during lunch on Friday. -_-“

There’s not much to report, so I figured I’d just leave you with a story of something that happened a little while ago, and that still makes me really happy when I think about it. It was after lunch at my school, and I was waiting in front of the theology classroom. My friend W. came up to me, and asked me if I had seen that they were serving cookies at lunch. I said that I had. He then asked me if I had gotten one. I said that I hadn’t, since it had been so crowded. He told me that he had figured as much, and had gotten me one. The fact that he had thought to do this for me, not to mention that it was a cookie, made me really happy.

This story requires a bit of explaining, though. First, W. is a Chinese exchange student at my school, and he once told me that they don’t make cookies in China, but rather buy them, because no one has an oven. Apparently they have microwave ovens instead??? This led to me teasing him about the fact that China doesn’t have real cookies (I love to make cookies from scratch, and am of the opinion that store-bought cookies can never measure up to a cookie straight out of the oven). They serve lunch to all the students at my school, and people tend to crowd around the dessert table. And we all know that crowds + Mara = Mara running away. Yes, even if that means no dessert. W. knew this, and he also knew my love of cookies and all things sweet. Thus, the above story. Just one additional fact: since this incident, W. has developed a crush my friend C.! She’s completely oblivious, of course, but it’s really cute to watch!

See you soon (and hopefully with more to talk about),

Mara
