Hello! I got back from a trip to Seattle yesterday, and I’ve been planning to write this post for while. So here are a few of my favorite parts of Seattle: things that I found quirky, note-worthy, or otherwise all-around awesome. Enjoy!
This is a shop that I saw on my first trip to Seattle, and when I learned that I would be going back, I realized that I absolutely had to get photographic evidence of this store. Because let’s admit it, a shop dedicated entirely to kilts made of army-grade fabric is rather… doubtable. But behold the picture above! It exists, and it’s managed to stay in business since I saw it last! I guess there’s a good demand for durable kilts in Seattle? I later saw a man walking around in a black kilt, so… maybe it’ll become a new trend? Who knows!
This is a picture from when I visited Pike Place. It’s admittedly rather far from a masterpiece in the world of photography, but it clearly illustrates that the YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS sign is upside-down. So I’m happy. I would assume that it’s a sign of distress, in the manner of upside-down flags, but the pedestrians in Pike Place Market are anything but distressed. If you want to see distressed, check out the faces of the drivers who were idiotic enough to try to drive there. Yes, it’s technically a street… but that doesn’t mean you can actually drive on it. Especially when you’ve got throngs of tourists walking down the middle of the street with no regard for the poor cars that are desperately trying not to run anyone over. So this sign may indicate distress, or it may be someone’s idea of a joke… take your pick.
This is a shop that sells exclusively:
1. Tea
2. Lemonade
3. And crumpets.
Is it just me, or is that AWESOME? I had a crumpet with homemade nutella here, and I have officially fallen in love with crumpets. Oh, and here’s a fun little fact: you know how the sign says simply “The Crumpet Shop?” Yeah, well the business used to be called the “United Metropolitan Improved Crumpet Baking and Punctual Delivery Company.” I must admit that I like the old name better, but I suppose it couldn’t fit on the sign. Oh well.
