They say that when a lamp appears where it shouldn’t be, it’s actually a soul that’s trying to guide you with its light. And I’ve found some lamps in weird places before. Up a tree, in the middle of a crosswalk, etc. Once, I came home to find my cat wearing a small lamp tied to its head like a child’s party hat. I had a feeling, though, that the lamps were never meant for me. I’d never been far enough astray or important enough in the world’s destiny to warrant a soul coming after me in lamp form.
Or at least that’s what I thought up until last night. I went out into the yard, and there they were: countless lamps leading into the darkness. And this time, I knew they were for me. It was kinda scary, to tell you the truth. So I went back inside and tried to figure out what to do. I spent all night thinking about it, and didn’t get a single minute of sleep.
But when I went out tonight, they were still there. And when I went up to the first one, it got brighter, as if it was really happy. It was warm, too. I can’t really explain it, but I don’t think the lamps are something to be afraid of now. Because every single time that I touch one… I get this feeling… like I’m being hugged by someone that I really care about.
I think the lamps have something to do with love.
So… so I’ll follow them. After all, if I don’t like where they lead me, then I can always turn around. Right?
