Let’s, you and me, believe in love at first sight for a moment.
Let’s forget the warnings, the psychological studies, the Tinder and the Match and the Harmony and all the other words that people capitalize in hopes that they’ll be true if they have a larger letter at the front.
Instead, let’s go back to a time that probably never existed. To poems and elegance and knights of the round table. Pretend with me, just for a moment, that we could look into each other’s eyes and suddenly know that our “happily ever after” is meant to be spent with each other. That it won’t end in therapists and lawyers and friends who comfort us while thinking “I told you so.”
Once I sit down, and we start talking, we can go back to the sharp-edged and cynical real world, furnished with our armor of iPhones and Starbucks and statistics. But for this moment, rebel with me against that world.
After all, what’ve we got to lose?
